Cause of World War 1

World War 1 started on August 1914. It started because of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife. the cause of the assassination were one Mutual Defense Alliance which is when countries throughout Europe made mutual defensw agreements that would pull them into battle. The second cause is Imperialism which is when a country increases their power and wealth by bringing additional territorries under their control. The third cause is Militarism as the world entered the 20th century, an arms race had begun. the last cause was Nationalism much of the origin of the war was based on the desire of the slavic peoples in bosnia and herzegovina to no longer be part of Austria Hungary but instead be part of serbia.

One event that dragged the United States into World War 1 is the sinking of the passenger liner lusitania by a U-Boat. 125 Americans were killed. The next thing is the British propaganda to the United States telling them how awful the germans were. The British would send them stories depicting the aumerous german atrocities. The British propaganda made numerous of Americans go in favor of the Allies.

Two Important Laws That Changed America

  • 18Th Amendment

  • 21Th Amendment

the 18Th amendment to the united states constitution banned the process of sale, transport, import and transfer of alcoholic drinks. The approval of the amendment congress approved this on October 1919. Also represented it into law as the national prohibition act of 1920. The duty to support the bill before congress went down to the chair of the judiciary committe, Andrew J. Volstead. U.S. Representative from the minnesota 7th Congressional Distric.

One year later from the approval of the 18th amendment which banneds any kind of transport of "Alcoholic Drinks" people started fighting back so that they can allow alcoholic drinks back. The reason why they banned the alcoholic drinks is because the human body doesnt respond quick to danger while toxicated. Which leads to the 21th Amendment , senator john Blaine of wisconsin submitted a resolution to congress proposing the submission to the states of the twenty-first Amendment , which would cancel the eighteenth. later on the Amendment was sent to the state governors. less than a year later after the twenty-first Amendment was submitted for approval, the necessary thirty-sixth state ratified the Amendment at 5:32 PM on december 5, 1933. president roosevelt signed the proclamation ending prohibition.

" Splendid Little War"

Yes i think newspapes and ( now televison ) can stir up so much feelings that they can create wars because then if a other country see's it they can have a different opinion. Also because newspapers and ( now television ) can over exaggerate with the details. Another thing is that they can make false remarks. Also if a president see's it they might not like it and it might contribute to a war.
